REVIEW: Photography Tent Kit

From time to time I am offered the opportunity to review products here on The Stampin' Bean. I try to only choose products that have a connection to crafting, so when YesComUSA.com asked if I would be interested in reviewing a photography tent, I was intrigued. I am always on the lookout for tools that will help me photograph my projects for the blog.

The 24" Photography Soft Light Square Studio Tent Kit arrived well-packed and I was surprised at how, for a 24" tent, it was fairly compact. I don't have a lot of storage space, but folded up, the tent kit could easily slip behind a door. As you can see, there are pockets in which the included tripod, lamps, and extras were packed.

The kit came packed with the following items:

  • 1x 24" Soft Light Tent
  • 4x High-quality Backgrounds
  • 2x 75w Table Lights
  • 2x 75w Spare Halogen Bulbs
  • 1x Camera Stand
  • 1x iPhone 4/4S Tripod Stand

  • The following photo is from the item page on YesComUSA. This was helpful when I went to unfold the tent as there were no instructions included -- it was not difficult to do at all and I really only used this photo to make sure that I did it correctly. It took less than a minute to unfold and another couple minutes to set up the lamps.

The above photo is of the tent completely unfolded in my dining area. It is large, but I liked that I was able to fit a background board inside and it is large enough to accommodate my layouts as well as my cards. (The photo stand is mine, as well.) I often have to photograph in the evenings, so I wanted something that would allow me to do that.

Here are the lamps that are included. Two replacement bulbs were included as well, which was nice.

Here is a photo from the product page of the whole kit:
The kit includes some fun extras, like an iPhone 4/4S tripod holder. I don't take photos of my cards with my phone, but I know several designers who do, so this seems like a useful tool:

I might consider purchasing larger lamps at some point down the line, but these were sufficient to take photos of my cards. The lamps do heat up so I would recommend letting them cool down every 10 minutes or so.
Here is an example of one of my cards taken at night, with no touching up:

And here's the touched up photo. I didn't use Photoshop, but a simple, free online photo editor:

The kit's price on YesComUSA.com is $59.99. They currently offer free ground shipping. Overall, I was pleased with the tent kit. I am not a professional photographer by any means, so I can't speak to the kit from that point of view. I liked that the kit was foldable into its own carrying case and I could stash it away. I am sure there are comparable kits that are both cheaper or more expensive than this one, but from what I could see, it wasn't over-priced.

    Would I recommend this product?
If you are a crafter who makes cards, the size might be a trifle large for you. However, if you are, like me a crafter who makes cards, layouts, gift and home decor items, I found the size to be very versatile and the tent itself was easy to assemble and disassemble and store. You can read more about this item here
Please keep in mind that as I was sent this item in exchange for review, I can't speak to things like ordering, return policy, etc., though I can say that the item did arrive in excellent condition. Imaginisce: Designer-A-Day...Ghoulish Delights

Happy Thursday! Today is my spotlight day at Imaginisce and I decided to create some spooky-good-fun Halloween cards featuring one of my favorite tools, the i-Rock! Of course, I just had to use the absolutely adorable Monster Mash collection.

For both cards, I wanted to use the i-Rock and crystal Glam Rocks to add a bit of fa-BOO-lousness.

The i-Rock made adhering the multiple bling a breeze and really added a lot to the spiderweb background.

The Glam Rock compact has several different sizes of stones, which was perfect for the graduated effect on the web.

My second card is a fun one that features this darling little vampire.

I heat embossed with black embossing powder and added some white accents with a white gel pen.

Again, the Glam Rocks added so much to really bring my card alive!

Taylored Expressions Share Joy Birthday Sketch Challenge!

Happy Wednesday! Today I have a pretty card to share with you, one I created for the Taylored Expressions Share Joy Sketch Challenge. Today and the rest of the week a few of the TE Design Team, Key Ingredients Team, and alumni are teaming up to bring you some birthday inspiration.  Today's challenge is a sketch! Check out Taylor's Blog for all of the details so you can play along.

The Taylored Expressions 5th Birthday Bash is continuing this week with a new Share Joy Campaign, benefitting the Union Rescue Mission of Los Angeles , Prodigal's Home of Phoenix, and Iowa Homeless Youth Shelter of Des Moines . These wonderful charities work tirelessly to bring comfort and care to many homeless individuals and families throughout the year. One way they are sharing joy each and every day is by celebrating the birthdays of their participants, and you can help by sending in your handmade birthday cards!

Here's the sketch, created by challenge hostess, Jen Shults:

I always love a good sketch, and Jen's is so versatile. I decided to got a bit more literal with this one, choosing to use TE's Big Bold Birthday and some pretty Butterflies dies.

I kept it all pretty simple, adding just a few liquid dimensionals to add a some texture. This is a sketch that I'll be using again in the future for sure!

Be sure to visit the Share Joy Campaign page HERE for all the details on how you can send in your much needed birthday cards.

    BEAN NOTES
In addition to supplies linked below, I also used the following on this project:
(cardstock, except cream) Stampin' Up!; (embossing folder) Stampin' Up!; (liquid dimensionals) Ranger

Taylored Expressions September Release Day: Happy Birthday, TE!

    Happy Birthday, Taylored Expressions!

Exactly five years ago today, Taylored Expressions was born from the amazingly creative mind of Taylor VanBruggen. She was one of the first crafty people to recognize my work and fulfilled a dream of mine to serve on a quality design team alongside other talented designers. Though I am no longer an "official" member of the Baker's Dozen, I still get to play along occasionally and it is always an honor.

Today is Release Day and I got to play with some of the wonderful new products now available. I created what else...a birthday card! I used the truly wonderful new Party Banner Cutting Plate to create this amazingly easy background. There is a little, cool cutout window where I stamped and heat embossed the perfect sentiment from the new Big Bold Birthday stamp set.

    BEAN NOTES
The new products I used are now available in the TE Store!

Taylored Expressions September Sneak Peek: Home is Where the HAUNT Is

It's the second day of the big Birthday Bash at Taylored Expressions!

I got to play along today with some pretty fabulous Halloween stamps and dies. Here's my spooky fun card:

I used the soon-to-be released set, A Spooky View and the new Gothic Window die. That awesome spider's web in the background was created with the new Spider Web Cutting Plate.

I stamped the haunted house scene with black ink on orange cardstock and then sponged ink over a mask to create the sunset sky.

To create the shadow effect on my web, I die-cut a second web with vellum and placed it behind the black web to really make the whole thing pop!

    BEAN NOTES
The new products I used will be available this Thursday at 8am PST.

This week is Taylored Expressions' fifth birthday and I am so excited to
be able to help them celebrate!

Today I have a fun little project using a new set called, From Me to You.

Using the upcoming Bracket Notecard die, I made a sweet little card fit for a princess. I love the whimsical shape of this 3 x 3 notecard!

This special stamp set includes a coordinating die, which I love.
But wait, the cool thing about this new set is that it's FREE GIFT with purchase on orders of $50 or more (before tax and shipping). It's a $17 value and the offer will begin on Release Day, September 5, and is good through September 15th or while supplies last. One free set per customer.
