After an anxious weekend of card-making, today is the first day of voting for Round 2 of Gallery Idol 2010! I still need to pinch myself to believe that I made it to the Top 15. Best of all, I've met some incredibly talented and sweet ladies whom I hope will become paper-crafting friends. I have to admit that when I saw this round's challenge theme: Masculine Garage, I freaked out just a teensy bit. Living in Manhattan, we don't have a car, let alone a garage to park it in! I wasn't even sure there would be a hardware store to go to. I managed to scavenge some things together, and I hope if you like my card you will vote by clicking the link below.

For my card, the only thing I was sure of was that I wanted to make a Father's Day card. The bond between my son and his daddy is one of the strongest and most special in the world. In fact, when my son was first born, he slept each night in the crook of my hubby's arm so that I could get some rest. My son's face lights up every time he sees his hardworking "Dadoo."
I began this card by gathering materials and creating the backdrop. I wanted every element on my card to be something found in a garage (with the exception of the card stock!) The backdrop incorporates, from top to bottom: sand paper, washers, wall patch screen, cork, and wire nails. My eyes were swimming by the time I finished gluing down the tiny wire nails, but I was pleased with the effect.
Next, I moved on to the main focal point of my card. I got the idea for the sentiment when I put two different sized nails next to one another. These I adhered to a square of wood, which I popped up over some chocolate card stock. To create the wire frame, I threaded and twisted some heavy gauge picture wire through four hex bolts and glued them down. I then printed the sentiment out and popped it out below.
I know it may well be too early to tell what exactly our son wants to be when he grows up, but if he turns out like my husband, I don't think it could make me happier.
Thanks for stopping by to check out my Gallery Idol submission for this round. If you'd like to vote, please click HERE. There are a lot of talented card makers in the Top 15, and you'll be wowed and amazed by each and every one. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that I'll make it to the next round!
